BULALACAO, MANKAYAN- “Ti danum ket biag(Water is life),”This is the theme of the protest conducted by Tabbac Community Organization(TCO) against the gold mining activity in their place after experiencing depletion of water source and water shortage in this area.
TCO conducts series of meeting with the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, Far Southeast Mining Company and Local Government Officials to settle this matter since Nov.6.
TCO successfully hindered mining activity when the LCMCo began pulling out drilling machineries and mining materials out of the site a week after the town fiesta celebration.
“Mining is good but we need to preserve water sources for the future generations. This is also to prevent further damgage brought by the mining activity. We have been experiencing landslides on the areas near the mining site. Furthermore, cracks were spotted at several sites within our area” said the TCO president when interviewed by the BaliTALK.
